Amygdala Depotentiation Therapy (Havening)
Treating trauma and Phobias in Long Eaton and Ripley, Derbyshire.
Since setting up my practice nearly two years ago I’ve experienced a huge increase in the number of people contacting me to deal with phobias and trauma. They leave feeling better and with a new sense of freedom but a lot of them baffled but their rapid results. I always explain my techniques and how they work but understand that it maybe confusing. So I’ve put together some information that people who want to deal with these issues may find interesting:
What is Havening?
‘Havening’ is a progressive new therapy from the field of Neuroscience, developed to decode emotional trauma from the brain. Havening enables a person to uncouple a negative thought or memory from a panic or a fear response.
How can Havening help you?
Overcome phobias
Let go of trauma from the past
Be free of the symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress disorder
Decrease stress and anxiety
Increase confidence and self awareness
Stop addictive behaviours
Be free from grief
What happens in a Havening session?
To start with your therapist will make you feel comfortable and at ease.
You will then be asked for a detailed history, this may also include things that don’t at first seem to be related with the presenting issue.
Your therapist will then assess the information and present a plan for Havening, you will be given the opportunity to express your opinion as to whether the plan is relevant to you.
When you are completely happy with the plan the therapist will begin the Havening process.
Each round of Havening will be assessed at the start by asking you on a sliding scale how much affect the presenting issue has on you at the start and how much at the end.
Havening has many different methods but all involve the production of Delta waves. To induce this usually the therapist will stroke the palms of your hands, your face and upper arms. If you are uncomfortable with this the therapist will show you how to do it for yourself.
The therapist will then ask you to talk about a variety of things. This really depends on this issue being treated. There are a few types of Havening and the type used in your session will depend on the issue presented.
Event Havening – This is usually used when someone had experienced trauma or has a phobia. The therapist will ask you to become fully associated with the trauma and the emotional content and then will distract you by asking you to talk about unassociated topics.
Transpirational Havening – This is for the removal of the emotional components that surround the problem. This is based on free association and you will be asked to bring up and repeat words associated with the issue. This is very useful for addictive behaviour.
Affirmational Havening- This is based around putting the positive back in. It allows you to connect with the outcomes you really want. The therapist will ask you to state things in the positive and become associated with those feelings.
Outcome Havening- In this type of Havening the therapist will help you to recreate an event with the outcome you would have really wanted. They will enable you to connect with it and recognise the strengths and abilities you have to continue your life knowing the past has gone and only the future lies before you.
After Havening the therapist will take time to debrief with you. They will assess any change that may have occurred and the barriers that need to be worked on in future sessions. Your therapist will never let you leave a session feeling disturbed or fearful.
It should be noted that all sessions are unique to the individual and there is no set format. The therapist may use a variety of Havening methods to help you and potentially use it in conjunction with other therapies they are trained in. If at any point you are uncomfortable and wish to stop you must communicate this to your therapist and they will respect your wishes.
